WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NOMINAL MIX AND DESIGN MIX CONCRETE?
Mix design is a process of selecting suitable ingredients and determining their relative proportions with the objective of producing concrete of having certain minimum workability, strength and durability as economically as possible.

A mix design can be designed in two ways as explained below
- Nominal Mix
- Design
Nominal Mix
It is used for relatively unimportant and simpler concrete works. In this type of mix, all the ingredients are prescribed and their proportions are specified. Therefore there is no scope for any deviation by the designer. Nominal mix concrete may be used for concrete of M-20 or lower. The various ingredients are taken as given in the table below

It is a performance based mix where choice of ingredients and proportioning are left to the designer to be decided. The user has to specify only the requirements of concrete in fresh as well as hardened state. The requirements in fresh concrete are workability and finishing characteristics, whereas in hardened concrete these are mainly the compressive strength and durability.

sir m confused bcz wht vis 1.54 ratio. nd i read in my book building material 1.54 in a ratio of cement in dry waait of 1cum but how plz snd my reason hoiw calculate in 1.54 ratio used in cement dry weight
For dry material of cement concrete using 52 to 55 % extra of volume of concrete. For example : aapko 1:3:6 ratio ki cement concrete use krni h or uska(concrete) volume 10cum h to aap dry mortar find krne k liye is volume m 54% extra lenge ,10+10*54/100=10+5.4= 15.4 cum.
Then isme cement ki quantity nikalne k liye ,15.4/(1+3+6)*1=1.54 cum cement
Similarly for send , 15.54*3/(1+3+6)=4.66 cum and aggregate= cement qty.* 6=9.24 cum
Aapko 10cum 1:3:6 ratio ki concrete bnane k liye itne dry materials ki jrurat pdegi..
What is the important of voids in mix design?
why not we are make a nominal mix above m-20.?
Because nominal mixes don’t take the ingredients characteristics into account ( Specific Mass, Volume , strength,,,etc) which vary from one patch to other, That’s why they are for “less important” mixes.

then coefficient 1.52
quantity of cement – 1.52/7=.217m3 x28.8=6.25bags
quantity of sand -2x.217=.434m3x1600=694.4kg.
quantity of aggregate 10&20= 4x.217×1650=1475.6kg
